Why Would One Rom Have Faster Wifi Than Another?

In my neverending quest to find the fastest rom for gaming I decided to try two different ICS roms, KingDroid LRQ and Rocket Rom.

They're both great, but KingDroid has a slight edge in gaming speed ... BUT it has terrible wifi, at least with my home connection. Webpages take forever to load, Playstore downloads take forever, etc etc.

My question: why would one ICS rom offer much faster wifi than another ICS rom? (I should mention that both have the same radio/modem)

Any ideas? And any ideas on what I can tweak to speed up wifi on KingDroid?
